At FiveJays, our hearts belong to our four-legged companions. For years, we have proudly supported canine health and welfare through dedicated fundraising, donations, and sponsorship. Now, as we evolve into a registered charity, we are determined to do even more.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to ensure our community is the absolute best place in the UK to be a dog. By structuring our support into clear, impactful grants, we can protect, heal, and champion the dogs who bring so much joy to our lives.
Our Dedicated
Health & Welfare Fund
To ensure help is always available when it is needed most, we have established a dedicated Health & Welfare Fund. This ring-fenced fund operates independently to maximise its impact:
The Welfare Precept: Each year, our Trustees set a “precept”—a dedicated percentage of all general donations to FiveJays—which is transferred directly into the Health & Welfare Fund.
Dedicated Fundraising: The fund grows through targeted events and the incredible generosity of doglovers like you.
Direct Donations: You can choose to donate directly to this fund, knowing every penny goes straight to canine care.
The Frontline Of Canine Welfare!
Who We Support
Our Health & Welfare Fund is designed to empower registered charities and organisations that work tirelessly on the frontline of canine welfare. We give priority to those operating within—or directly benefiting—our local community.
Funding can be used for vital initiatives, including:
- Emergency veterinary treatment for dogs in crisis.
- Supporting the vital rescue and rehoming work of local shelters.
- The care and support of assistance dogs or retired service dogs.
Our Trustees welcome and consider applications from all types of registered organisations.

Applying for a Grant or Donation
We are currently building a seamless, electronic online grant application form to make the process as easy as possible.

Levels of Funding
| Donations up to £100 | For smaller amounts up to £100, funding is awarded as a direct donation. These are made at the absolute discretion of our Trustees during our regular meetings, guided closely by our internal grant and donation policy. We look at the registered organisation’s standing with the Charity Commission and any known history of their great work. If approved, we will reach out to the organisation directly to see if they are willing to accept the donation. |
| Grants from £101 to £500 | For funding between £101 and £500, support is structured as a formal grant. To be considered, the organisation must submit a formal grant application prior to our regular meeting, using the specific form prescribed by our Trustees. The Board of Trustees will then carefully review the application during their meeting, assessing it against our standard grant and donation policy to make a final decision. |
| Major Grants over £500 | For significant requests over £500, we introduce an extra layer of community review. Organisations must submit a formal grant application prior to the meeting using our prescribed form. Before it reaches the Board, the application is independently reviewed by two charity members who sit outside the Board of Trustees, and they will make an official recommendation. The Trustees then consider the application at their meeting. If the application is unsuccessful at this stage, or if the Trustees feel it warrants wider input, the application may be put forward to the charity’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for our full membership to vote on or decide. |
